My vision for The Craft Fantastic is to continue with my core range of quality handmade products, made as sustainably as possible, using materials that have been upcycled or diverted from the waste stream wherever I can. This includes journals & notebooks, stationery cases, book necklaces, and bookmarks.

These journals were the first where I worked out the design myself - starting with figuring out measurements, then making templates, before creating the notebooks from scratch.
I was very sure what I wanted to achieve when I started out: a solid front and back cover, but with a flexible leather spine; something that fits with the look & feel of my range.
I keep tweaking and updating the design to see if I can improve it - this one has a page marker, pen holder and a small pocket in the back.

Using rescued leather for my makes often means a little sorting and prep! I need to sort the leather for suitability, clean and remove any labels and sticky bits - then I can use my templates to cut to size before attaching together or sewing. I love the making process 💕

Because I work with rescued & reclaimed leather, one of my biggest challenges is using it effectively and minimising waste: positioning my templates on the pieces I have to get the most out of it. I've also started using up smaller sections to create patchwork journals & pencil cases.
